Als June Havens (Cameron Diaz) am Flughafen dem charmanten Roy Miller in die Arme stolpert, ahnt sie noch nicht, was für eine folgenreiche Begegnung ihr bevorsteht. Kaum an Bord kann sie gerade einmal “Hallo” sagen, bevor Miller im Handumdrehen die ersten, auf ihn angesetzten Killer umlegt, nonchalant die Boeing notlandet, June kurzerhand entführt und ab sofort nicht mehr von ihrer Seite weicht. Aber ist er wirklich der, der er behauptet zu sein? Oder treibt er ein doppeltes Spiel? Und ist June wirklich nur eine gewöhnliche Automechanikerin aus einer Kleinstadt? Kann sie mit zwei Maschinenpistolen in der Hand wirklich nicht bis drei zählen? Nichts und niemand – nicht einmal das flüchtige Paar selbst – sind so, wie sie scheinen.

In questo brillante film d’azione Tom Cruise è un agente sotto copertura e Cameron Diaz è una donna presa tra due fuochi, tra lui e coloro che, come egli sostiene, lo hanno incastrato. Mentre l’avventura in giro per il mondo si trasforma in un labirinto di inganni, confusione, doppi giochi, fughe scatenate e identità fasulle da far girare la testa, i due capiscono che l’unica cosa che possono fare è contare l’uno sull’altra.
